Process
In this WebQuest you will be working together with a partner (your choice). Each of you will work together to create a letter from the character you have been given. You will choose the characters randomly from a list I have created.
You will be using the internet to research your characters. Even though you will work collaboratively to complete these tasks, you will each be producing an final project. This means you will share different responsibilities such as operating the keyboard/mouse and navigating the computer during research.
I have included some links for you to help with your research. I have also borrowed some books from our library to help you and of course, you have your handy-dandy Social Studies textbook!
You will begin with gathering some background information on the American Revolutionary War.
You will then research your character. What did they do on a daily basis and what impact did they have on the war?
Our class will also Skype a historical expert. We will be asking them questions regarding this important time in American history. This will help you with some of your research.
When you have gathered enough information, you will write a letter to a loved one or friend. The letter will be from your character's point of view. Your letter will include three paragraphs:
Paragraph 1) Describe their daily life
Paragraph 2) Describe a major event in their life
Paragraph 3) Write a persuasive paragraph trying to convince the your friend or family member to either stay a loyalists or become a patriot.
This letter will become your speech. You will record the speech for everyone to listen to (using iMovie, Garage Band, or Blabberize).
After we have heard the speeches from all members of the groups, we will individually vote whether to fight for our independence or stay a part of Great Britain.
